Horse Halters are used to lead and tie up horses. Halters can be used on many different types of livestock. However, halters are most closely associated with horses donkeys and mules. Halters are often plain in design, used as working equipment on a daily basis. In addition to the halter a lead shank or lead rope is required to actually lead or tie up the animal. It is most often attached to the halter at a point under the jaw, usually with a snap.

A standard working lead shank is approximately 8 to 10 feet long. At Best Friend We offer halters in leather nylon and poly. Each has it's benefits and use. Because we promote the use of the Best Friend Muzzle and we want it's use to be as safe as possible we offer many halters with leather break away crowns to be used with our standard muzzle.

Leather, while is widely used, is more expensive and not as well suited for turning out your horse. Nylon is less expensive than leather halters and poly is less expensive yet. Leather crowns that replace the standard nylon or poly crown turns the halter into a break away halter. The goal is that if the horse gets caught on something in your pasture while being turned out the leather crown will break and free the horse from possible injury.
